Hello, folks. It occurred to me that I didn't put a redirect from this blog to my new blog, or even share the news here that I've decided to go with my fetish stage name (Lila Night) as my everything stage name. Of course, if you've been following me on twitter, you already know about this whole little bit of awesomeness.

I am honestly trying to update my website (new domain) and blog more regularly, so bear with me as I get into the swing of things. The posts now are pretty short little updates, but never fear, I'm sure another topic I feel passionately about will come up and you can all enjoy my opinionated essays.

Updates, Oh, My!

It's been awhile since I've had the opportunity (i.e. motivation) to post. I've decided to use this blog as a place for more regular updates about my doings and goings-on. You see, although I do love to write self-righteous essays about issues that I find interesting and stuffing my opinions down everyone's throat, it is a little too much like writing essays for school, of which I do plenty at the moment. So while I'm sure there will be plenty of opinionated opinion pieces on here, I'm going to try to make an effort not only to post more often, but to post about stuff that is more relevant to this entire venture. Here goes:

As those of you who've perused my site recently have noticed, I've finally gotten my own video camera. And that means, more video updates! Unfortunately, I'm still my own editor, so you'll all have to bear with me as I try to make enough time both to film new updates, and to edit/upload them. Also, I'm a video editing beginner, so you'll also (hopefully) get to see me improve as I become more practiced. Why Abstinence-Only Sex Education is Stupid

You know what’s stupid? One takes something that a bunch of people want, sets it out, tells them they can’t have it, and then expects them not to take it the moment his/her back is turned. Yeah, that’ll totally work, but only in a universe where said thing is kept under an impenetrable shield of sorts, perhaps something that shocks the people trying to get it. And you know what? I bet they still try to get it.

What’s similar to the aforementioned scenario? Could it be the asinine concept of abstinence-only sex education? Naw, that stuff works. People will definitely wait to have sex until they’re married if we just tell them to. And they’ll magically know how to avoid STDs and unwanted pregnancies- I mean, of course they’ll only have sex for procreative purposes…Hey, wait a minute…

The fact is that humans are sexual beings. One might say that the pursuit of sex is a driving force behind existence. One might also say that sex is lots of fun. Me? I like having sex. I like having sex a lot. I also believe that no one has the right to dictate what two (or more) consenting adults do to each other. Personal beliefs aside, abstinence-only sex education is just plain stupid. People are going to do it whether they’ve been taught safe practices. It’s just going to happen. In fact, as long as humans have existed, they’ve had sex. Humans fuck. Trying to restrain people from fucking just isn’t going to work in most cases.

There are those who believe that sex is dirty and wrong. There are others who believe that sex is something that no one should talk about, let alone think about doing, unless one is in the safety of marriage. These ideals are the foundation of abstinence-only sex education, the idea that the only sex education that should be taught is that sex is something that happens between a man and a woman, after they’re married, usually for the purpose of making tiny men and women, who’ll then grow up in perfect bliss because their parents waited until they tied the knot to do the dirty. If anything’s said about pregnancy or STDs, it’s only in a scare tactical manner, meant to discourage any more thoughts about the horizontal mambo.

The advantages of this method of sex-ed? Honestly, the only one that I can think of is that it’s easy to teach: “kids, don’t have sex until you’re married.” Hell, you don’t even need a fancy text book or slideshows or anything like that.

The disadvantages are numerous. The majority of teens who are taught abstinence-only will have sex before they’re married. The downside is that they won’t know about birth control or common methods to lower one’s risk of venereal disease. Not knowing these things leads to riskier sex acts and a greater chance of unplanned pregnancies. Sadly, even if these people do wait until marriage to fuck, they’re still not going to know these useful things. Family planning isn’t a crime, nor is it a bad thing.

So. People like to fuck. People will fuck regardless of their sex-ed syllabus. It’s better to know the risks and what one can do about them than not to know and bury one’s head in proverbial sand before doing the deed. Just because the information is available doesn’t mean that it’s going to give students the idea to have sex or encourage it. Let’s be realistic- they were probably thinking about sex long before class-time and they’ll be thinking about it if they’re taught abstinence-only or something more comprehensive.

I’m not against abstinence. If you don’t want to have sex, for whatever reason, that’s completely up to you. It’s the abstinence ONLY part with which I have a problem.

Sex is fucking great. It’s even better when you know how to be safe about it.

Trendy Bisexuality?

Facebook bisexuals. MySpace lesbians. Predominantly straight in every day life, these girls are the ones that begin making out with other girls when under the influence of alcohol, or even just in a looser club setting, mostly for the benefit of any boys that happen to be watching, or to show how “wild” they are. There are many bisexuals who scorn these girls as not being truly bisexual and giving a bad name to those who are.

I myself am of two different minds. Part of me is giving a big thumbs up to flouting societal conventions and enjoying freer love. I think that our society is far too prudish and that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying sexual activity between two (or three, or more) consenting adults.

However, another (perhaps larger) part of me is irritated at the continual objectification of girl on girl love. There is nothing wrong with sharing intimacies between two members of the same sex. The thing that bothers me is the girls who do it for the attention of others and only for the attention of others. These same girls don’t hang all over their boy friends (friends of the male sex, not to be confused with boyfriends), don’t make out with them in public with the slightest amount of alcohol in their systems for the attention, and don’t generally make a scene with them. It seems like a horribly unfair double standard. Girls using other girls for the attention of others are the ultimate objectification of girls loving girls.

Here’s what I have to say to all the Facebook bisexuals out there: if you like girls and identify as bi, pansexual, queer, open, or what have you, awesome for you. Be happy with whom you are. Go ahead and keep kissing on your casual girlfriends, but don’t just wait until there’s an audience. To the ones who are straight and would never countenance any lesbian activity without the help of alcohol or peer pressure: have some self respect. Don’t contribute to the objectification of women. Don’t turn yourself into a toy for the pleasing of others (unless you’re into D/s, in which case I don’t think any of this will be an issue). If you truly just relish the attention, but really don’t like girls that much, well, that’s what porn is for; just keep in mind that you can’t have any “liquid courage” to get you going.

And to all: go to clubs to have a good time and don’t worry about impressing anyone else!
